Ming-Chi Kuo Expects VR/AR Apple Headset by June 2023
08 JUNE 2022 - Monday’s WWDC keynote is so… day before yesterday. Headed into it, most talk of seeing Apple’s mixed reality headset or even hearing much mention of augmented reality during the keynote had pretty much died down. It’s possible though that TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was playing it safe - waiting until the keynote had passed before putting firm dates on his expectations around Apple’s anticipated accessory. This he did Monday night in a couple of posts to Twitter. In the first, the analyst said:
I believe Apple's AR/MR headset shipping date will postpone to 2Q23 (vs. 1Q23 of market consensus) because Shanghai lockdown interrupts the development. As expected, there were no clues for AR/MR headset at WWDC 2022. Here is my prediction for Apple AR/MR headset schedule.
That followed in a second Twitter post:
EVT (Engineering Validation Test?)starting from 3Q22.
Media event on Jan 2023.
Delivery of development toolkit within 2-4 weeks after the event.
Starting pre-order in 2Q23.
Hitting store shelves before WWDC 2023.
Personally, I still like a September tease into an April launch, just like with Apple Watch. Of course, what I really like is having this stuff two years ago, so I might not be the best person to ask.
