Apple Gear Shoots Up and Dries Up in Russia

With global sanctions and no more supply headed their way, the price of Apple gear in Russia has gone insane. We heard yesterday that Apple has stopped sales of items in Russia. It’s also stopped supplying authorized resellers with stuff to sell. Now a piece from iMore says remaining inventory is going through the roof. The piece has the Russian outlet iPhones.ru saying:

Some time after Apple's announcement of the temporary suspension of sales of its equipment in Russia, non-chain stores and individual sellers sharply raised prices.

According to iMore, the “cheapest iPhone 13, the mini,” was selling from more than US$800 on Wednesday. Apple Watch Series 7 units were selling for over $1,700. A 1TB iPhone 13 Pro Max was going for $2,700. The high end M1 iPad Pro was over $3,000. And Apple’s most expensive MacBook Pro was nearing a price of $10,000.

Russian Apple Authorized Reseller Closes “Temporarily”

With no new hardware coming in, Apple’s largest authorized reseller in Russia has closed its doors. Officially, the closure is temporary, though it’s kind of hard to see how that could be. Another piece from iMore says re:Store has locked the doors on its one store in Prague, its one store in Kyiv, and its 42 stores in Russia. As recently as last week, re:Store sold “Apple's entire range of products,” including the latest iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs. It also sold gadgets and accessories made by companies other than Apple, so… that might happen again?

iMore has re:Store saying in a statement:

The decision to close re:Store stores today is temporary and is caused by the need to assess the current situation on the market. In the near future, the stores will continue their work as usual.
