In proceedings that shocked no one, a piece from Engadget says the “Senate Judiciary Committee voted 20-2 to advance the Open App Markets Act,” on Thursday. As discussed here before, that’s the one that would mandate that:
Competing app stores would be allowed on iPhones and Android phones
Consumers would choose which app store app to download
Consumers would choose their default apps
Apple and Google would not be allowed to do anything to give their own app stores an advantage
That is just some of the changes that would come should the bill become law. It can now be taken up by the whole Senate, though whether or when it will remains to be seen.
